Walk of Honor

A pilgrimage in search of roots,
healing and truth

At thirty-three, William Walker left his career and identity behind to walk 1,300 kilometers from North Carolina to Ontario through the winter—following the path of his ancestors with no plan for what would come next.

Part memoir and part exploration of leadership and human development, Walk of Honor examines how resilience, presence, vulnerability, and authentic leadership are forged through challenge, uncertainty, and lived experience.

Through a winter pilgrimage and encounters with strangers along the way, the book offers a grounded and deeply human reflection on masculinity, transition, meaning, and the search for a more authentic path.

“I began to have the feeling that I just needed to let go, to abandon the structure of my life and place my trust in the unknown. I needed an open space, an open landscape, and then a new way — my own pilgrimage — would emerge.”

Stories
of Sovereign Man

Stories, reflections, and poems exploring masculinity, freedom, challenge, brotherhood, and the human journey.

Inspired by encounters with remarkable people, wilderness experiences, hardship, beauty, and everyday acts of humanity, Stories of Sovereign Man is a literary collection of short stories, reflections, poems, and illustrations exploring what it means to live authentically and fully as a man in the modern world.

Blending memoir, observation, philosophy, and poetic reflection, the collection explores resilience, mentorship, grief, belonging, purpose, and the search for meaning through lived experience.

The Noble Material

I worked in demolition and renovation for some time.

One day I was stripping a floor of decades of tiling down to the raw wood and I was struggling. The tiling didn’t want to come off and the task felt purposeless.

My boss came to see me to see how the work was going. I told him the tiles were a pain in the ass to remove.

He said, “it’s important to get the tiles off because we want to get to the noble material.”

My heart melted.

“This encounter vitalized me to my core, to the immediacy of now, and woke me up to the fact of my tenuous existence. I didn’t know it was possible to feel as alive as I did while the animal was breathing next to me. Nature is a humbling mirror when we dare to get really intimate with it. It strips us naked of all our means of psychological and structural separateness…”
